In an interview with the Israeli organization StandWithUs, he warns that Europe’s passivity could have serious consequences.

Herzog argues that Israel’s military efforts are not solely about national self-defense, but also about protecting other parts of the world. He points to Iran’s development of long-range missiles and says the threat already extends far beyond the Middle East.

“When the Iranians launched a missile that reached as far as the British island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, they demonstrated their capacity to reach all of Europe, including England. Why such naivety? If you have any doubt, read their writings, their ideology, and understand that Europe is next.

“What we are doing is protecting Europe,” Herzog continues, warning that European countries underestimate the intentions of the Iranian regime. “They are a rogue state. They are an empire of evil, and they are an evil regime—and it must be crushed.”

He is particularly critical of what he sees as a lack of action from European governments. Among other things, he refers to reports by the British prime minister concerning around twenty terror-related incidents in the United Kingdom with Iranian links, and questions why such activities are allowed to continue without clearer consequences.

In the interview, Herzog describes Iran as a destabilizing force in the region and urges the international community to set clearer boundaries. According to him, the time has come for the world to “say no” and act more decisively and in unity.

At the same time, he emphasizes that Israel’s objectives in the ongoing conflict are primarily to limit Iran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons and to weaken its capacity to deploy long-range missiles. He describes these two areas as the main threats to Israel.

Herzog also suggests that there are additional dimensions to the conflict. Although it is not an officially-stated goal, he points out that a change of regime in Iran could create new conditions for stability and peace in the region.

Looking ahead, Herzog sees possible changes in the region. He notes that several Arab countries are showing increased openness toward relations with Israel and speaks of the potential for expanded normalization agreements. At the same time, he stresses that the Palestinian issue cannot be ignored. If destabilizing actors such as Hamas and Hezbollah are weakened, he sees an opportunity to resume talks on that front as well.

The president also addresses the situation at home in Israel. He describes a country marked by political tensions and anticipates that new elections may be held within approximately six months. In his role as president, he emphasizes the importance of countering growing divisions and instead fostering greater understanding between different groups in society.

Herzog’s message in the interview is clear: what is happening in the Middle East now has consequences far beyond the region. The question, he suggests, is not only how Israel should act—but how the rest of the world chooses to respond.

The full interview is available on Ynetnews.com.

Israel’s President Isaac Herzog directs sharp criticism towards Europe’s stance on Iran and calls for clearer action.
